Art of Elan’s Young Artists in Harmony (YAH) program has fostered the growth and development of talented young composers in the San Diego area for the past ten years by creating an environment that encourages collaboration and creativity. Student composers have the unique opportunity to workshop their pieces with local professional performers and hear their music come to life. This past 2025-2026 season marked my first year in the new role of Director of Composition Studies with YAH where I provide private and group lessons while also guiding students through the collaborative process. Working with the next generation of composers is the most important work that I can do to give back what I have learned from my career as a composer and violinist. It brings me fulfillment, joy, and optimism for the direction of new music and the future of our art form.
